Sherlock Ad Remover

Mac OS 9.0 puts Apple banner ads in the search results window if there is no banner information in the search plugin just like Mac OS 8.6. This causes Sherlock Ad Remover to be somewhat useless. However, I have solved the problem by creating a little patch for the 9.0 "Sherlock 2" application that will remove the banner ads from "Sherlock 2" itself and cause everything to work nicely.

It is called Sherlock2_9.0_No_Ads_patch2.sit . This is has been updated so that the banners don't show up when the Sherlock window is very large.

A version for the German version of Sherlock 2 is available here: Sherlock2_9.0DE_NoAds_patch.sit . My thanks to Dr. Rolf Jansen who created this patch.

Sherlock Ad Remover for Mac OS 8.5 and 8.5.1:

The current version is 1.5.
Changes from 1.0:

• Version 1.5 should handle odd cases of quoting and formatting whereas version 1.0 only handled the basic cases. Thanks to Miro Jurisic for the parsing code.
• I spelled "ad" correctly in this version. :-)
• The source is not available currently, but will be released for this version shortly.

There are several download options:

Its really easy to use:

• Locate the folder called "Internet Search Sites" in your system folder and open it. Each file in there is a search site "plug-in". It shows up in the "Search Sites" list in the Sherlock "Search Internet" window.
• Simply drag the files you want to remove the ads from and drop them onto this application. Alternately you can select a file from the "Open" item in the "File" menu.
• This program will create a new plugin called "-no ads". Now run Sherlock and select the new "no ads" plugins in the list. There you have it! No more ads. Yea!
