The Santaroga Barrier is classic Frank Herbert. It’s about a guy who goes to investigate this extremely inwardly focused farm community. They don’t ever leave, they don’t import anything from outside; they’re completely self reliant. Gilbert Dasein is a psychologist sent to figure out why the town seems so strange.
I dont want to give away the secret why the town is so strange, but think about Dune and you’ll get the idea quickly.
This was a bit easier to read than some of Frank Herbert’s other novels, but it was definitely enjoyable.
